According to the particulars of the offence, on 20th September 2008, Njogu Jobe stole a car tape player valued at D500 and a vehicle windscreen valued at D4500 in Gunjur. The items belong to one Alagie Ceesay.

Giving the facts of the matter, Corporal Kinteh, the state prosecutor, stated that when the complainant discovered that his items had been carted away from his car, he traced the footprints of the thief to a particular compound.

At the said compound, he added, the complainant was granted permission to conduct a search of the rooms. The stolen items were then discovered in the accused person's room.

Njogu Jobe, who had earlier pleaded guilty, agreed with the facts submitted by the prosecutor.

The accused was convicted on his own plea of guilt. In his mitigation plea, he said he was compelled to steal because of his involvement in an accident which rendered him incapable of taking care of himself.

This excuse however did not satisfy the High Court master, who sentenced him accordingly.
