Thief sent to Mile 2Friday, April 13, 2012 Principal Magistrate Foster of the Bundung Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday convicted and sentenced one Lamin Keita to serve seven months imprisonment without any option of fine. The accused was standing trial on two counts of criminal offences, attempted to commit a felony with stealing and theft, all contrary to the Laws of The Gambia. The particulars of offence on count one stated that on the
3rd April 2012 at Bundung in the Kanifing Municipality, the accused entered
into the dwelling house of one Yaya Barry with intent to commit felony therein
wit: stealing, thereby committed an offence. While on count two, it revealed
that on the same date and place, the accused stole from the house of the said
Yaya Barry, a DVD marked CIA Tatonic valued at D1, 500. The accused however
pleaded guilty on both counts. The prosecutor handling the case, 1st Class 1708 Camara read the facts of the case, which the accused admitted. In his plea of mitigation, the accused begged the court to temper justice with mercy, adding that the offence committed by him was not intentional but instead it was caused by saitanor evil spirit.
