Tijan earns coach praises

Africa » Gambia
Thursday, June 25, 2009
The talk from Bergen (Norway) this week has been the wonderful statistics of Tijan Jaiteh and his coach has a lot of praise for the Gambian but is not concern by statistics.

In the three years he spent with former Norwegian champions, Tijan only lost five times when he plays from the start including a 2007 Norwegian Championship medal and every game Brann won this season saw Jaiteh playing from the start.

Tijan has been an incredible part of the team that fans love him equally that saw him won the teams' young player of the season back to back in 2007 and 2008. According to Steiner Nilsen head coach of Brann, he is impressed with Tijan's improvement since he took over from Eric Mjelde this season but is not concern with the statistics and believed every player has to fight for his place."When I arrived, Tijan has shown me that he is a good player, as he has done it very well. I am very happy with the job he has done". "It is always good to have one of those statistics, but as a coach, I am not primarily concerned with the statistical stuff. I'm more interested in putting together such a good team as possible, and not least, competition within the team" Nilsen said.

In the winter, Gambia National team coach Paul Put told BT that he has spent much time to get Jaiteh to limit himself. "An enthusiastic midfield player does not need to cover the whole path on his own. He has ten partners with him" Paul told BT. But when asked by the paper about what he discussed with Tijan, Nilsen turned down the opportunity to talk about that by saying, "I do not want to go into details about how I tell Tijan what tasks he has and what we want of him. We are pleased with the progress he has had with us and are very satisfied with the progress he has had. He contributes in a positive way in the group" Nilsen said.

Jaiteh's teammates Jan Gunnar Solli also thrive in the moderate Africans company, and he is not surprised when he hears about the fine statistics as he joined the group to praise the Gambian jewel. "Tijan is a good player, and I am not surprised with the incredible statistics he had with the team" Solli said.
