Thursday, March 04, 2010
Mawlud Nabi , the annual celebration of Prophet Muhammed’s (SAWS) birthday was this year successfully celebrated in the holy city, Tivaone, the epicenter of the Tijaniyya foundation in Senegal.

It is celebrated throughout the world on the third month of the Mulism calendar (Rabil Al Awal) on the 12th day of the birth of Prophet Mouhammed (SAW). This is the 108th year since Alhaji Malick Sy commonly called Mawdo started the celebration or observation of the night in Tivaone.

The celebration of the night started with the recitation of the Holy Quran under the leadership of Alhafi Malick Sy and Alhaji Rawan Ngum of Paal. The book written by Seydi Alhaji Malick Sy on the life of the Prophet called “MIMYA” was used on the night to narrate more to the disciples (Talibe) about the life of Prophet Mouhammed (SAW).  This year’s Mawlud Nabi was named after Serigne Habib Sy, who was born in 1906-1992 with an exemplary character. He was the last son of Alhaji Malick Sy. His life history was the topic of the conference.

The Kalifa General of Tijan Serign Mousour Sy presided over the night beside his brothers: Serign Chiekh Tijan Sy Maktum, Serign Abdul Aziz Al-Amin, Sergine Mbaye Sy Mousour, Serign Mawu Abdul Aziz Dabaah, Mam Ousman Sy, Serigne Abib and many others.
President Abdoulaye Wade and his cabinet, the opposition parties among other senior government officials from Senegal attended the night.

The Khalifa General Serign Mansour Sey in his address, called on the incumbent leader and the opposition to unite, bring peace to Senegal, Casamance region. He also caongratulated the Gambian leader, His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya Jammeh through the Gambian delegation and wished him long life. He further prayed for unity and peace to prevail between The Gambia and Senegal.
