Editorial

Operation Bulldozer is on the move. Media reports speak of arrests of alleged criminals, and now demand from districts authorities for the activities of the operation to be decentralised. Of course the operation is meant for the whole country and its activities will certainly be entended to every nook and cranny of the country.

This initial success of the the Operation as we have earlier stated indicates that the authorities have not been found wanting in any way, as they did not spare any effort to safeguard the security of the citizenry. Operation Bulldozer itself brings to light the reinforced effort in the general crusade of curbing crime in the country.

As people are demanding for the decentralisation of the activities of the Operation, it is also prudent that they be reminded of their duties and responsibilities as members of society. It has been said, time and again, that enhancement of public safety is the responsibility of every member of society. It is not restricted to security operatives.

The Gambia government is not relenting in its resolve to contain criminal activities in the country. People should therefore complement the efforts of the Operation by exposing criminals and criminal activities in their neighbourhood and avoid habouring such people.

We need not reiterate that The Gambia is a country known for its peace and we must on no account allow undesirable elements to jeopardise the peace and stability we have been enjoying for long. The secutity forcesare exhausting all efforts within their capability to track down the criminals in our midst.

The cooperation of the patriotic citizenry is crucial in the work of the police.  A progressive nation is backed by a progressive populace. We should all perform our duties and responsibilities as citizens of the state who will nurture and foster a crime-free society for posterity.
