Treason trial progresses

The criminal trial involving the State against one Foday Gassama resumed yesterday before Justice Abdulahi Mikailu of the High Court in Banjul. The accused Foday Gassama is charged with treason contrary to Section 35(1)(a) of the Criminal Code Cap 10:01 Vol 111, Revised Laws of The Gambia, 2009.


According to the particulars of the offence, on the 7th February 2012 at the 2nd Infantry Battalion, Farafenni Military Army Barracks in the North Bank Region, the accused solicited the assistance of military men at the army barracks in order to overthrow the democratically elected government of the Republic of The Gambia. The prosecution led by State Counsel Njaimeh Jallow called four witnesses to testify. Hearing continues.
