Trust Bank gives D125,000 to AFPRC Hospital

Africa » Gambia
Saturday, August 29, 2009
Officials of the Trust Bank, Gambia limited, last Tuesday presented a cheque for D125,000 to the AFPRC General Hospital in Farafenni, North Bank Region.

The presentation was held at the  Ministry of  Health and Social Welfare in Banjul. Speaking at the presentation ceremony, the chief executive officer of the hospital, Omar Sey, gave a brief account of the long  cordial relationship that  exists between the hospital and the  bank.  He said the bank had been sponsoring the maternity ward in the hospital since its inception,  thus enabling it  have  all the necessary equipment  a hospital needs.

Trust Bank, Sey continued is always ready to contribute in health delivery services in the country. "When we decided to paint the hospital, I first approach the Trust Bank, but to my surprise within two weeks they came up with this amount. This  shows the interest the bank has for the health sector. I want to assure them that the money will be used for what it is meant," he  remarked.

For his part, Dodou Nyang, Sales and Marketing manger, Trust Bank, said the donation  is part of the bank's  contribution  to the socio-economic development of the country." Without health there will be no business activities," he stated. Nyang said this is one of the reasons  why his bank took it more than a duty in supporting this sector.

In receiving the cheque, the minister of Health and Social Welfare, Dr Mariatou Jallow, thanked the management and staff of Trust Bank on behalf of the government, for this laudable gesture towards the welfare of the health sector. She described health as  a  top priority of the  Gambian leader, Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya   Jammeh. "This effort is done to make sure that rural folk  receive  health care in their various localities," she noted.
