'Unite for development' Hon. Seedy Njie urges Nianija constituency

africa » gambia
Wednesday, January 14, 2009
As the dust surrounding the APRC victory celebration in the just concluded Nianija by-election settled, Hon. Seedy SK Njie, nominated National Assembly member has called on the people of Nianija to unite, work together and continue to rally behind President Jammeh and the APRC government for a better Gambia.

"Politics is over and we should now work hard to ensure that we live up to expectation as well as address the concerns of the people of this country", Hon. Njie remarked. The erstwhile National Assembly Member made these remarks last Thursday in an exclusive interview with the Daily Observer at his Churchills Town residence.

It could be recalled that Abdoulie Jallow, the first NRP choice  candidate was popular and was optimistic of winning the Nianija by-election but reports indicated that Hon Seedy Njie to convinced him to withdraw his NRP candidature after the nominations, and join the APRC Wagon for progress and development. Commenting on this development, Hon. Njie said even though it was  for him, he was able to succeed after series of consultations and meetings with the NRP first sponsored candidate.

He said "after Abdoulie Jallow's withdrawal, I heard that the NPR party has choosen another young lady called Salla York but I was not scared of that move because at that point, I knew that the APRC must win the seat, no matter what the margin was going to be", he said. Commenting on the issue of the by-elections, Hon. Njie said the people of Nianija are use to by-elections, recalling that Dawda Manneh, Hon. Yahya Whan's predecessor, came to power through by-election, following the dismissal of his predecessor.

He then advised the people of Nianija to desist from politics of tribalism, nepotism, and division in all forms, and work together for peace, progress and prosperity. He also advised Hon. Yahya Whan to work hard and live up to expectation as a National Assembly Member.

Hon Njie then commended President Jammeh for his great efforts and support to the people of Nianija and the country as a whole. He also  thanked his colleagues, Hon. Sainey Mbye, Hon. Adama Cham, Momodou M5 Jallow and others as well as Alhagie Ganyie Touray, CRR Governor for the ground work to ensure that APRC was victorious in Nianija.
