URR tops in Nerica rice production nationwide -URR Governor Khan

Africa » Gambia
Thursday, June 11, 2009
The governor of Upper River Region, Alhagie Omar Khan has said that his region has been declared the best in  Nerica production in all the regions during the 2008 cropping season.

Speaking in an interview with our correspondent in Basse recently, the URR governor revealed that the recommendation of his region as the best was announced at a national workshop held recently in Jenoi, LRR, where Nerica focal persons were evaluating the production trend in all regions.

Governor Khan expressed happiness at the achievement and commended Peter Baldeh, who was recommended as the best NERICA focal person in terms of production in his region for what he described as total dedication and sacrifice. Matarr Njie, the regional agricultural co-ordinator for URR also expressed similar comments.  He expressed optimism that the region would continue to achieve even more than this.

Nerica production has now become popular among the farming community in the URR.  Women, men and young ones embark on the activity every year to harvest surplus for their family.
