US $3000 worth of educational materials for Tendaba Schools

Africa » Gambia
Monday, January 23, 2012
Students of Jefferson College in the United States of America, last Tuesday donated US $3000 worth of learning materials, and sporting gears such as jerseys, footballs, second hand clothing, among others to the Tendaba Lower Basic and Nursery School, at a presentation ceremony held at the Tendaba Camp.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Professor Buba Misawa, a Political Science lecturer at the Jefferson College, expressed delight at the presentation and recalled that the initiative started in 1999 when he first visited The Gambia as a Rotarian. He explained that he decided to bring his students to Tendaba for an educational trip, where he assured the community of Tendaba that he will do something for them.

“In 2002, the project gave a small contribution to the schools and in 2006, the project decided to do bigger things for both the two schools by providing a kitchen for the Nursery School, feeding programme for both the two schools in Tendaba, as well as bought uniforms for the students,” he sated. He also thanked David White and Haulages for their personal contribution towards this programme.

Speaking on behalf of Tendaba Lower Basic School, the head teacher, Mamadi Nyabally expressed delight and gratitude to the donors for the gesture. He also thanked them for contributing immensely towards the feeding programme of the students as well as helping in creating a conducive learning environment for them.  Seedy Jammeh, a Cluster monitor in the Lower River Region also expressed similar sentiment.
