UTGSU awards contestantsTuesday, July 13, 2010 The University of The Gambia Students' Union (UTGSU) fundraising committee last Thursday awarded certificates and prizes to the contestants and winner of the 2nd edition of Ambassador of UTG Miss pageant at a presentation ceremony held at the Gamcel head office in Kanifing. Speaking at the occasion, the president of UTGSU, Ousman Bojang, thanked Gamtel/Gamcel for sponsoring the event, noting that the companies have been supportive to the University and that they hope to receive more from them.For her part, Ramou Nyass Hydara, the senior marketing manager at Gamcel, commended the organisers for the success of the event, noting that the University and Gamcel believe in quality education and girls' empowerment; thus this being the reason for the strong collaboration between the two institutions. She expressed delight at her company's association with UTG, noting that the young educated girls and boys will be the leaders of tomorrow. She thanked the UTGSU and congratulated the winner of the competition, Teneng Gitteh.For his part, Muhammed Ceesay of Gamcel said that the motive was not to look at the beauty of the girls but to know how talented they are.He finally assured of their continuous support to UTG, being the highest educational institution in the country. At the end of the ceremony, certificates were presented to the contestants and the newly crowned ambassador of UTG, Miss Teneng Gitteh was given a cheque for D20, 000. The first runner up, Kaddijatou Manneh was given a cheque for D15, 000 and the second runner up was given a cheque for D10, 000.Other speakers included the fundraising chairperson, Baboucarr Cham, Tereng Gitteh and Kaddijatou Manneh.
