Veteran Gambian musician drops new albumFriday, July 02, 2010 A veteran Gambian musician, Dr Oliver Mboge, formerly of the 'Oliver and the Chucketts Band' a popular band in the late 80's, has released his second solo album. The four-track CD album entitled "Sopalehma Yai Boie", one of the tracks and title of the album, includes some other tunes like "lead me heavenly father", 'sweet candy love', and 'hero'. Recorded and mixed in The Gambia, the album according to the the star is dedicated to all the mothers in the world. It comprises of high quality sound that music lovers will find interesting. The album which composed mainly of Mbalax, reggae and hip-hop songs, is his second solo album and was released on June 25th 2010. The singer, songwriter, composer cum arranger, started his music career in the late 80’s with the aforementioned band, before his leaving for Europe, where he was studying and at the same time writing songs. Speaking to What's On yesterday, Dr Mboge revealed that he was inspired by President Jammeh's empowerment of women in The Gambia. "The album, which talks about the important role mothers play in upbringing their children as well as their love and caring nature, is dedicated to all the mothers of this country, citing their engagement in domestic works among a host of others. It is currently available in places like Timbuktu and City Limits Sounds," he said, and added: "Our mothers are people we will never forget and we will continue to love them so dearly.” Upcoming plans Dr Mboge also disclosed he is currently trying to establish a production company in the country, where they will write, produce music as well as sell artwork to other artistes."I am also planning to link up with international artistes to bring them to The Gambia to attend events and festivals. This will create more understanding especially international artistes for them to know the country’s culture among a host of other things," he said, while pointing out that it will avail him the opportunity to distribute his production worldwide. He also said he plans to set up a band that will perform with live band, saying he wants to bring European standards to The Gambia in terms of making music.
