VP inspects work at new APRC bureau![]() Wednesday, August 18, 2010 The vice president and minister of Women's Affairs, Aja Dr
Isatou Njie-Saidy, Tuesday afternoon inspected the ongoing renovation work at
the new APRC Bureau in Kanifing. VP Njie-Saidy was received at the site by Yankuba Colley, the APRC national mobiliser, who also doubles as the mayor of the Kanfing Municipal Council (KMC) Fatou Lamin Faye, the minister of Basic and Secondary Education, National Assembly members and other APRC bigwigs before being led on a conducted tour of the premises. Renovation work on the building, which formerly housed the Taiwanese Embassy, cost about D1.9 million, and is expected to be completed by mid-September. Speaking to reporters shortly after the conducted tour, VP Njie-Saidy said the Gambian leader, His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya Jammeh, as the leader of the APRC always wants the best for this country and the party. "Because when you talk about the APRC, it is the APRC government we are talking about and therefore the party structure should commensurate that of the government. So the Gambian leader has always wished that we have a better headquarter. We were renting all the time but it is good to have our own. The contractor has done a good job and the fact that they assured us that by mid-September, if all the resources are put in place the work will be ready, where all party militants will be happy to have a befitting headquarter as this one," she said. She then thanked the president, party national mobiliser and team, and the entire APRC secretariat and staff who were involved in supervising the ongoing work. She noted that the new bureau is more spacious and a lot more can be done there by the APRC, which could not have been done in other places they had occupied previously. VP Njie-Saidy further noted that the APRC is a political party and there is need to strengthen the party base. "Even if we have 80% of supporters, what about the remaining 20%? We should bring them on onboard and the way we can bring them on board is to showcase our success as a government," she said, and disclosed there will be a special 'archives' in the new bureau where they will store all party documentaries produced by GRTS in a bid to sell the achievements of the APRC government as well as showcase government?s successes. For his part, Yankuba Colley stated that the whole initiative came from President Jammeh as he was the one who requested for a permanent bureau for the party. He observed that some people detach the government from the party, and went on to emphasise that the party is the government. "When you talk about the achievements of the government, it is the party which is the APRC that is achieving it. So they cannot be separated," he stated. Mayor Colley declared that this new development demonstrates a landslide victory for the APRC come 2011, and called on party militants to prepare themselves for the coming election. "This coming election will be more than a landslide victory as we want to sweep everything. We want 100% victory in the forthcoming election," he stressed. Fatou Lamin Faye, the minister of Basic and Secondary Education also called on party militants especially the womenfolk to continue their good work and support President Jammeh. Fabakary Tombong Jatta, the majority leader and National Assembly member for Serrekunda East described the new bureau as symbolic in the sense that a party like the APRC should have a permanent structure that depicts it in totality. "For us [NAMs] this new bureau has created a new vigour in us because now we have open space where we can have forums, dialogue, consult with the people as well as to brainstorm/debate over issues," he added. He also thanked President Jammeh and all those who contributed to the new development. Author: by Sheriff Janko | Media Actions See Also |
