West African Network of Journalists on Peace Building formed![]() Thursday, May 28, 2009 Journalists from nine West African countries, recently formed an association called West African Network of Journalists on Peace Building (WANJOP) in Accra Ghana. Nfamara Jawneh, a Gambian journalist at The Point newspaper who was elected as the association's president said the network was formed on the 11th May, 2009 to promote peace building in the sub-region. According to the WANJOP president, the association's major aim among other things, is to promote and advocate peace and stability in the West Africa sub-region, which has had its share of conflicts through media. He cited the importance of the media towards promoting peace and stability and called on all and sundry, particularly journalists to promote peace and join the association.
