West Coast sponsors scrabble competition

A one-day scrabble competition sponsored by West Coast Radio ended at the President's Award Scheme in Bakau on Saturday with Ebrima Nyass been the winner.

The competition, organised by the Gambia Scrabble Association, was divided into three groups of eight each with groups four and five consisting of seven and six players respectively. There were more than 100 games  played with the first four from each group qualifying to the second round.

Dr Abba Hydara and Modou Ndow played in the first semifinal with Alagie Darboe and Ebrima Nyass locking horns in the other. The final was contested between Ebrima Nyass and Abba Hydara with Nyass eventually winning the day. As champion, Ebrima Nyass has qualified to world scrabble tournament to be held in Malaysia later this year.

New executive
At the same gathering, the Gambia Scrabble body elected in new executive committee members. Alagie Darboe was elected the president, Ousman Conteh the vice-president, Karamo Sambou is the secretary general with Sainey Touray his assistant secretary and Mbye Baboucarr Jallow is the auditor with Modou Ndow elected the new treasurer.
