What is going on at GPA?

Africa » Gambia
Thursday, February 09, 2012

Reports reaching Daily Observer indicate that fully loaded container(s) went ‘missing’ at the Port of Banjul, which is under the supervision and management of the Gambia Ports Authority (GPA).

Although GPA officials are tight-lipped over the issue as they neither confirm nor deny the story, the Daily Observer can confirm that top officials of the Authority including its managing director are currently at the National Drug Enforcement Agency (NDEA) HolGam Branch in Kanifing helping the officers in their investigation.

The NDEA public relations officer, ASP Abdoulie Ceesay is currently not in town, but the Agency’s deputy director general, Kalilou Njie confirmed the incident. He said the GPA officials are currently under their custody helping them in their investigation.

When asked how many people were involved and when were they arrested, Njie declined to comment as at now, saying: “I cannot reveal anything to you because it might jeopardise our investigation.”
