Whats On: Gambian artists line-up for major compilation

Friday, May 08, 2009
As part of activities marking the 15th anniversary of the July 22 2009 revolution, scores of Gambian stars are currently warming up for a major compilation project.

The compilation piece dubbed the 'July 22 Riddim' will be officially released before the actual programme proper. This new initiative is meant to recognize the tremendous achievements registered by the present government from 1994 to date. The brain behind this wonderful initiative is the country's well-established reggae dancehall star - Singateh aka Freaky Joe.

According to Singateh, it will be on video medley and the compilation will be available in the local market as well as online on Facebook, Myspace and Youtube ,among others. "I feel every patriotic citizen has a say in the development of his or her country. So if one does good things, people have to talk about it. The country has witnessed a lot of developments during the past 14 years, and I think we have to sing about it .The current infrastructural development of the country is just superb," he said.

And guess what? Singateh's new album called 'Rejoice' will be officially released on the 25th of May 2009, and, according to him, will be presented to the Gambian leader as a birthday gift.
