Windstorm batters Dongoro-ba houses, health center

Africa » Gambia
Monday, June 11, 2012

A heavy windstorm with a slight rain recently destroyed several houses in the Jarra East District village of Dongoro-ba inLower River Region.

The village’s health center, currently under construction, said this reporter, was not spared by a windstorm that destroyed its fence and removed the roofs. The storm also caused damages to seeds that were kept for use in this year’s cropping season. “The roofs of my houses were affected by the storm, and all my seeds; such as groundnut and coos all perished during the disaster,” one of the victims, Adama Dem lamented.

Similar sentiments were expressed by other affected families. The villagers are now calling for urgent support from the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA), and other concerned stakeholders in order for them to get over the situation.

The villagers can be reached on: 7957993, through one Saidou Jallow, a native of the village.
