Women empowerment on the moveFriday, February 10, 2012 Ediorial For The Gambia and her people, women's empowerment and the liberation of women from poverty and domestic oppression and exploitation are pre-requisites for national development. This is particularly true of President Jammeh's leadership. The
empowerment of our women, which of course is championed by President Jammeh is
still on the move and would continue to be a prime focus in development of the
country in the coming years. The reappointment of women to Cabinet, and the
fact that more of them are being appointed, bear testimony to this. The gradual
composition of the new government is a degree of measure which justifies beyond
all reasonable doubt that President Jammeh is indeed an icon in the
emancipation and liberation of women from poverty and exploitation. Women of
this country now enjoy many privileges. For example, modern equipment are made
available to them in the rice field to ease theirlabour. They also have access to improved health service
delivery, thus reducing the infant mortality rate, among others. Whilst we
congratulate the women for the Cabinet appointments, we hope that these and
other milstone empowerment of our women by President Jammeh would serve as an
eye opener to them to continue to recognise that they have a president who is standing
by them at all times. Besides, the degree of a country's development can be gauged by the participation of its women in the development process. This is what the president has realised and has integrated in his policy agenda. We are certain that Gambian women would always stand by him as well. Once again we congratulate Gambian women for the new Cabinet appointments. Author: Daily Observer | Media Actions See Also |
