Cherno Jallow, aged 105 and resident of Manjai Kunda has described the Second World War - particularly their sojourn in Burma, as a 'real bloodbath and destructive war'.

"The war was a real bloodbath and sad story for the people of the world. Only a few people who went to the war survived," he said. The 105 year old man made these remarks in a recent chat with the Daily Observer.  He spoke of a British colonial officer called 'Decole' who came to The Gambia and selected youths to join the British to fight against the Germans under the leadership of Adolf Hitler.

"I left The Gambia at the age of 25. The British won the war but it was really destructive and sad," he explained.
