Yaws Creations welcome to fashion world

Yaws Creations was on 11 June 2012 welcomed to the world of fashion by Fatou Mbye, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly who deputized for Her Excellency Aja Dr Isatou Njie Saidy, Vice President and Minister of Women’s Affairs at the launching ceremony of Yaws Creations showroom located in tranquil road of Brusubi Highway, Brusubi.


Fatou Mbye congratulate Awa Conateh the CEO of Yaws Creations for her bold initiative in setting up the modern fashion and creativity’s house. Awa Conateh is a young talented creative designer that her work will add value to the world of fashion in society. Since her arrival to the country after her study and training from United Kingdom she engages in the fashion industry and contributes her quota to the national development.


Awa did not limited herself to designing for customers only but has engages in different fashion shows where she is showcasing Gambia culture and “she has also taken part in government’s organized events such ass the annual Miss 22nd July Scholarship Pageant organized by the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education,” Fatou Mbye said.


Yaws Creations showroom will also be used to exhibit creative designs for both the local and international market “this is due to the fact that among other professional designers, Yaws will help to promote made in the Gambia products for our homeland and beyond the shores of the Gambia,” she added.


The deputy speaker welcomed Yaws Creations to the world of the fashion business and assured her of government support. She continued that the government of the Gambia is fully cognizant of the fact that there cannot be any meaningful development without the full and active participation of all especially women and the private sector therefore this he “formulated gender sensitive policies and laws and ratified women and gender related conventions and protocol, this in addition to the implementation of the Program for Accelerated Growth and Employment {PAGE} which is being informed by vision 2020 and the Millennium Development Goal (MDG).”


Awa Conateh, proprietress and CEO of Yaws Creation thanked Her Excellency for her support and as well extended her appreciations to the High Commissioners, Ministers and other top officials both from the private and public sectors present at the launching. She praised her role models her father who always advises her and the mother a great seamstress and hardworking woman, which through her hard work she discovered her own hidden talent.


Awa has her breakthrough in 2007, according to her, when she has the honor to single handedly contributed to the interior designing of Omakan Hotel. She pledge to train other young people to enable them become artistically independent in the field of interior and fashion design “as we can all become ‘fashionistas,” she concluded.
