Friday, February 10, 2012

The new executive of the Young Journalists Association of The Gambia (YJAG) Wednesday paid a courtesy call on Amie Bojang-Sissoho, the board chairperson of the Association, who is also the programme coordinator of Gamcotrap, at her office in Kanifing.

Speaking at the meeting, Lamin Jahateh, secretary general of YJAG, explained that the purpose of the visit was to meet with the board members of the Association, as they are currently trying to select a new one.Jahated said all the members of YJAG are aware and appreciative of the efforts Amie Bojang-Sissoho during her tenure as board chairperson.  He also said that the Association cannot afford to lose her in the new board. “We are here as a family to thank you and we appreciate your personal contribution towards YJAG,” he remarked.

For her part, Amie Bojang-Sissoho, said that her term has ended as she has been there for two terms, adding that she does not want to continue to be in the board for more than two terms. “For me my understanding of leadership is to engage, do my best under all circumstances and allow others to come to also be engaged to do their best. I will continue to support you even if I am not in the board,” she stated.

According to her, she believes in YJAG and that is why she accepted to be part of it, adding that she will continue to give all the necessary support and advice in whatever capacity to the association because she believes in journalism. She noted that the journalism field is a noble course and wished the new executive good luck and pray that God guides them in their endeavours.

Bekai Njie, 1st vice president of YJAG, thanked Amie Bojang-Sissoho for her support and service she rendered to the association during her term as board chairperson.
