The KMC Youths Fan Club Wednesday awarded the ‘Youth Pan-Africanist Award’ to the Gambian leader, His Excellency Sheikh Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya A.J.J Jammeh at a ceremony held at the KMC grounds in Kanifing. The award is in recognition of President Jammeh’s Pan-Africanist ideology in the emancipation of Africa as well as ensuring peace and unity among the people.
Speaking at the ceremony, the president of the KMC Youth Fans Club, Pierre Minteh, described President Jammeh as a champion of African development who has over the years worked immensely for the people of Africa to be united especially in war-torn and hunger-stricken countries. “People from outside The Gambia award the president and we thought Gambians should be the first to show to the whole world that we are aware of his efforts to see that Africa and Africans move forward to high-level,” he said.
Sanyang, a senior manager at KMC who received the award on behalf of the lord
mayor for the president, said President Jammeh has received many awards in his
life time, but expressed hope that this particular award will be special in his
heart because it is about Africa and he is a Pan-Africanist.
He said the KMC Youth Fans Club is the first to be recognised within the municipality and has been engaged in a wide range of activities geared towards supporting the Council and citizens of the municipality. He thanked the leadership of the fans club for awarding the president for the good work he has done for Gambians and the continent at large.
Amadou Touray, the chief adviser of the KMC Youth Fans Club said the award is very important and a milestone in the history of the country. He urged the members of the Club to continue the hard work in achieving the dreams of the association. He also urged the youths to take good care of their studies and engage in skills training for the betterment of their future.
