Youths and the future world

africa » gambia
Wednesday, March 18, 2009
Editor,

The youths have to start thinking seriously of how to get involved in shaping the future of the world - this our delicate and only world. Most of the older generation have their individual and collective prejudices and pre-conceived ideas which can hardly be done away with. It is therefore proper that the youths do not follow their footsteps but try to develop an independent way of looking at issues.

The youths should always bear in mind the message which was delivered by our leader during the 44th anniversary of The Gambia's National Day celebrations. We are endowed with a leader who is humble, dedicated, determined, pious, loyal, honest and hardworking, His Excellency Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya AJJ Jammeh.  Yanna fi yaga teh werr. Amen.

The world should be looked at as it truly is, one humanity with a common destiny in the sense that in the case of doom, we all perish together, and in prosperity we all enjoy the benefits of a better and peaceful life. We need a united world void of tribal, racial, political and religious differences. All religions including the so-called "primitive" or "pagan" religions, proclaim that there is only one God. If this is indeed true, then it follows that we are all one,  and are all creations of the same and only God.

To realise this oneness of humanity, we have to start breaking down all things that separate us. One way of achieving this is through communication links for the exchange of ideas in all fields of human endeavor. We learn from history so as to avoid costly mistakes, but in some cases people use history to instigate hatred and arouse tribal, racial or national ill feeling against others. The youths have to be wary of people who would use them for selfish ends.

Instead of trading abuses, let us spread peace, love and good will. A word of cheer here and there will go a long way in reducing tension. Trying to understand why a fellow human being behaves in a particular way will help to ease hatred, anger and intolerance. May Allah grant our President, his family and the entire Gambia long life, good health, success, peace and prosperity. Amen.
