YPM literary club launched

Africa » Gambia
Friday, August 13, 2010
Young People in the Media (YMP) last weekend launched its first literary club, at a ceremony held at the American Corner in the Comium head office along kairaba Avenue.

Speaking at the occasion, Lamin Hassan, youth coordinator of the Young People in the Media, said the aim of the literary club is to give people the opportunity to express themselves through poems, drama, comedy and painting. The event, he went on,  will be held on monthly basis and prizes will be awarded to winners in order to motivate them. Kaddijatou Fofana, the president of the Young People in the Media, said her organisation has been involved  in various activities such as the celebration of the Day of the African Child and International Children’s Day of Broadcasting .

These programmes, she recalled were very successful, adding that many young people were inspired by poems that were presented by the participants. "We have wonderful and dedicated members who are always willing to move the organisation forward," she noted. Alieu Bah, secretary general of YPM said the literary club will enable young people to think and decide for themselves on issues affecting their lives.
