The new Managing Director of the Daily Observer, Dida Halake, has continued the on-going changes at the paper with the re-designation of seven journalists to editorial-posts and the termination of the services of four employees deemed surplus to requirements.

"Promotion and appreciation of good, hard-working staff is crucial to the success of any organisation," said Mr. Halake, adding, "as is the weeding out of those not performing to expectations as they tend to lower the standards of others".

The promoted journalists are: Ebrima Jaw Manneh - Deputy Editor-in-Chief; Lamin M Dibba - News Editor & Head of Health Desk; Pa Malick Faye - Politics and Interviews Editor; Ousman Darboe - Business and Finance Editor; Nanama Keita - Sports Editor; Abdoulie John - Features and French Editor and Alhagie Jobe, Society Editor.

Hassoum Ceesay returns to the Daily Observer in his much-missed role as History Columnist, Book Reviewer and proof-reader, while Mustapha Kah of the UTG and Kojo Quayson, a UTG graduate, take on enhanced roles as columnists and proof-readers.

Mr. Halake bemoaned the lack of good female journalists at the Daily Observer.
He expressed the view that the Daily Observer, is in need of a literate, articulate and motivated female journalist to take on the role of Women's Editor.

"Keep a look out for a trainee with potential for a fast-track promotion within six to twelve months," he said.
