Bakau club cry foul -Sports committee scolded!

Bakau Zonal and Sports Committee has rejected Vidar FC's application to represent Bakau in the upcoming GFA Third Division qualifier competition, Observer Sports has gathered. The dethroned Bakau champions have waited longingly to represent the town in the lower division qualifier for the past years without a success.

In a letter addressed to Vidar FC, this week, the Bakau Sports Committee revealed that it will instead form its own team to represent the town in the triangular competition instead of Vidar FC who have been training for the past three months in anticipation of the annual competition.

Buba Minteh, head coach of Vidar FC, did not hide his disappointment with what he described as Bakau Committee's 'harsh' decision against his youth team.

"We have, for the past four years, tried to represent Bakau in the qualifiers but the committee will not just give us the chance. This year, we were the only team that were training ahead of the qualifiers and we're all of the hope that it will be our year."

"However, it's disheartening that the committee can, at this eleventh-hour, turn things around," revealed coach Minteh who recently guided Bakau to their first-ever zonal title in five years.

Another official of the teenage club, who preferred anonymity, branded the Bakau Sports Committee an enemy of Bakau football.

"How can you drop a fully prepared team for another team that is yet to be formed? The committee has again shown their true colours - enemies of Bakau football."

"Vidar FC remain the most outstanding junior team in Bakau. We have won the Bakau league title, we have won the super cup title and our players were very pivotal in the Bakau zonal team that beat Banjul to land the zonal title this year.

Moreover, it was our own coach, Buba Minteh, who guided Bakau to the historic victory. So how can we get such a harsh treatment in return?." the disappointed official asked in bewilderment.

When contacted, the president of the Bakau Zonal & Sports Committee, Ebrima Jallow, said he was not in town when the decision was made.

His immediate assistant, Bakary Paco Dampha, has also distanced himself from the decision. Dampha admitted that Vidar were the right candidate but failed to justify his committee's unilateral decision.

Known for embezzling monies meant for football development in town, the two-man Bakau Sports Committee has always been in loggerhead with Bakau clubs - thanks to its allege unscrupulous activities.
