The Gambia Independence Stadium will have its final inspection when the Fifa inspection team arrives in the country in the first week of May 2008, Observer Sports has reliably gathered.

The inspection tour is meant to confirm whether the ground is legible to host Scorpions' international matches in the South Africa 2010 World Cup qualifier that doubles as qualifier for Angola 2010 Nations Cup finals.

The FIFA inspector, in his last Banjul visit, expressed the need for the authorities  to improve facilities at the country's main stadium. The Fifa official singled out the need for an improved dressing rooms and toilets as well as a standard pitch.

And expectedly, his words were taken seriously by the department of state for Youth and Sports. A major maintenance works have been undergoing at the Chinese-built stadium since then, with the dressing rooms and other facilities all given a total face-lift ahead of the final inspection.

Gambia's quest for a place in South Africa and Angola finals will commence in May with an away-tie to Liberia. The Scorpions will also face bitter rivals Senegal and Algeria.
