Tijan lands Norwegian league title

Gambian international Tijan Jaiteh has guided his Brann side to claim the Norwegian league title.

Brann were on Monday, confirmed the league champions without even playing a match.

Brann's title win was earlier put on hold after a 2-1, defeat to Aalesun on Saturday.

But hopes were restored just two days after when their fellow contenders, Stabaek were defeated 2-1 by Viking, making it impossible for Stabaek to catch up with them. It was Brann first league title in 1963, which gives the fans enough reasons to celebrate endlessly.

"The best team has won the league. We've been the best team in the second half of the season. Winning the league two rounds before the end, marks that we are the best, no doubt", a joyous Brann FC Director of Sports, Roald Bruun-Hanssen, said.

"It's great to reach our goal, winning the league, this season. I'm so happy for both the city and our supporters. They deserve it after waiting 44 years for it", Branns captain Martin Andresen said.

"This is fantastic. The club, the city and the fans have waited for a long time. But we can only allow ourselves a small celebration, because we have a match to play already on Thursday against Hamburg ", Branns Head Coach Mons Ivar Mjelde said.
