Bala Garba Jahumpa, The Gambia's Ambassador designate   to the Republic of Venezuella , yesterday left Banjul for Cuba as a special envoy of President Yahya Jammeh.

Speaking to the Daily Observer soon before his departure, Bala Garba Jahumpa confirmed that he is leaving for Cuba as a special envoy of the Gambian leader, to take yet another 10 more medical students that President Jammeh has sponsored to study in Cuba. According to him, this batch of 10 medical students, will join students, who are already studying in Cuba in various academic fields.

He then described the move as another indication of President Jammeh's commitment and priority on education and the importance he attaches to The Gambia's fraternal relations with the Peoples Republic of Cuba.

Ambassador Jahumpa, is expected back on Monday 29th October 2007, after which he will immediately join Yankuba Touray, Secretary of State for Fisheries and Water Resources, on the sensitisation tour for the forthcoming Local Government elections.
