Turro Darboe donates 13 cattles to Muslim community

africa » gambia » banjul
Monday, October 08, 2007
Momodou Turro Darboe, a philanthropist, yesterday donated more than a dozen cattle to the Muslim community in the Greater Banjul Area, in observance of 'Lailatul Qadir,' commonly known as "Kitim". Mr Darboe who is refered to by many as a true philanthropist, who follows the footsteps of his father, is widely known for his generosity and kindness. Speaking before the distribution of the cattle to various mosque in the Kombos, Majority Leader, Fabakary Tombong Jatta, said Mr Darboe did not only help individuals, but also kafoos and the Muslim community. This, he said, is manifested by the fact that he had distributed bag of sugars to the needy people and flood victims. He added that Mr Darboe is not the richest man in the country, but he out of mercy shares his wealth with the people, noting that others should emulate him. Hon Jatta pointed out that Turro Darboe is complementing the efforts of the government, by working hand-in-glove with President Jammeh's government. "Today we are gathered here to witness another donation made by Mr Darboe to various mosques in the KMC and beyond. We are aware that for one person to make a gift of 13 cattle in this month of Ramadan is indeed a kind gesture. This is what is expected of the likes of Mr Darboe as this will go a long way to help the Muslim Jamat in the celebration of the "Lailatul Qadir," he added. Alkalo Landing Jatta of Latrikunda, said this is not the first time that Mr Darboe has given to the poor. He said Darboe has been doing this for a long time now, adding that he always donates sugar and clothes to the needy on special feasts. "This is what Allah said in the Qu'ran. Islam is all about helping one another. God said in the Qu'ran help those in need. This donation is very timely. The cattle will serve the purpose that they are meant for. Mr Darboe has shown sympathy to his fellow human beings, especially in the month of Ramadan", he stated. Alkalo Jatta called on the people to pray for Mr Darboe and ask God to shower his blessings on him. He further revealed that Darboe has contributed a lot to the A.P.R.C party, particularly during the 2006 Presidential elections, by providing the party with most of the campaign materials. He said this is how a patriotic citizen should behave, adding that Mr Darboe has been adopted as father by many groups within the KMC. The Imam Ratib of Latrikunda, Cherno Momodou Jobe, Momodou Pikka Jallow, Lamin Kanteh, among others, described Mr Darboe as a man of God, who's always ready to share with others. For his part, Momodou Turro Darboe, Chief Excutive Officer of VDF, said he is not doing this for cheap popularity, but as something prescribed by Prophet Muhammad and the Almighty God.
