Thursday, November 01, 2007

The Association of Indigenious Business Community (AIBC) in The Gambia has recently called for the reduction in price of basic commodities, due to the recent appreciation of the Dalasi against foreign currencies, at a meeting held at its office in Banjul.

Speaking at the occassion,  Alhagie Sankung Jaiteh, President of the association urged the business community  to take advantage of the Dalasi appreciation and reduce the cost of basic commodities to commensurate with the current exchange rate.

Salifu K Jaiteh, Public Relations Officer of the association thanked the government for its efforts in creating the conducive environment for  business to operate  smoothly, adding that basic commodities in The Gambia are more cheaper than those found in the markets of the sub-region.

According to him, price of basic commodities in The Gambia are the cheapest in the sub-region. He then noted that the reduction in prices of basic commodities doesn't mean that businessmen will  loose.

Other speakers at the ceremony  were  Sainey Faye, representative of the association at the Serrekunda Market, Lang Conteh and Bakary Touray, Secretary and Treasurer of the association, respectively.
