Four vehicles for Justice DeptSunday, November 11, 2007 President Alhaji Dr Yahya Jammeh, yesterday, donated four vehicles to the Department of State for Justice to augment its transport fleet. Ebrima JT Kujabi, Director of Press and Public Relations at State House, presented the vehicles on behalf of the President at a ceremony held at the office of the Attorney-General and Secretary of State for Justice, Banjul. Handing over the keys of the vehicles to the Justice Secretary of State, Marie Saine-Firdaus, Mr Kujabi elaborated on numerous laudable developments undertaken by President Jammeh. DPPR Kujabi reminded the gathering that appointment to public office under President Jammeh's administration is based on merit. He implored the staff at the department to be obedient to their leaders and called on them to support the Justice Secretary of State in the execution of state duties. Receiving the vehicles, SoS Saine-Firdaus, expressed delight with the gesture. She informed the audience about the gigantic nature of her department, which comprises lawyers and travelling magistrates to the provinces. As a result, she said her department is confronted with transport problems. However, she said the intervention of the Gambian leader will go a long way towards alleviating difficulties. On the responsibilities of her state department, SoS Saine-Firdaus reminded the ceremony that they are mandated to inspect all criminal matters in the country. She commended President Jammeh for his timely intervention, which came after a request. She assured the President of her department's responsibility to make sure that the vehicles are put into good use. Dr Henry Carrol, Solicitor General and Legal Secretary at the Attorney General's Chambers, recollected that the President was impressed with the work at the department following his visit a forthnight ago.
Emmanuel Fagbenle, Director of Public Prosecution, said the donated vehicles will help in facilitating their movement in order to live up to expectations.
