Moulaye Mohamed, charge d'affaires of the Mauritanian Embassy in Banjul, has commended The Gambian government for its recent assistance to the residents of Tintane City, Mauritania, which was affected by a heavy downpour.

Tintane has a population of more than 48,000 inhabitants. The city was recently devastated by heavy rainfall and since the incident occurred, friendly governments to Mauritania, including The Gambia, have supported the victims.

The Vice President, Dr Isatou Njie-Saidy, presented a cheque amounting to US$95,000 to Moulaye Mohamed, charge d'affaires of the Mauritanian  Embassy in Banjul, as part of The Gambia government's contributions towards improving the living conditions of the people.

Responding to the gesture on behalf of the Mauritanian ambassador to The Gambia, Mr Mohamed expressed gratitude and thanked President Jammeh for the assistance.

"This assistance contributes without doubt to ameliorating the condition of the lives of the people of the city of Tintane. This assistance demonstrates the willingness of the two heads of state to make the people of the two nations one big family," he said.
