US ambassador's assistance programme to be signed today

The Embassy of the United States of America in Banjul, in partnership with local communities in The Gambia, will sign a Special Self-Help (SSH) program on December 12, 2007.  The SSH is a grassroots assistance program that allows U.S ambassadors to respond relatively quickly to local requests from small community-based development projects.

This year, the program will award a total of U.S $40,000.00 to ten communities nationwide covering the following areas: support to Gambia All-Schools Tree Nursery competition 2006/2007, provision of coos milling machine to Kuntair VDC in Jokadu, provision of a groundnut butter making machine to Panneh Ba Village,

provision of rice dehusking machine to Kinteh Kunda Janeya women and 4 neighbouring villages, provision of fencing for a local school in Kerr Pateh, provision of a milling machine for the women group in Sohm Village in Kombo East, fencing of a school in Dongoroba Lower Basic School, purchase of a power tiller for Kudang Village, construction of cereal bank in Panchang Madi Fana, and construction of a hand pump well in Koba Kunda Village.
