More revelations at MFDC rebel's trial

As proceedings continue in  the MFDC nine's trial in order to determine wheither the statements from Abdou Salam Jammeh and Nuha Jammeh were obtained voluntarily, the Banjul Magistrate's Court is still stormed by many moments of revelatory insights.

Appearing before the presideng magistrate BY.Camara Abdou Salam Jammeh,recalled that he faced the panel of investigators on 18th May and 5th June 2007 respectively. He then informed the court that the panel asked about his biography and curriculum vitae (CV), the laptop as well as a  big book which he was asked to explain its content but he did not comply.

According to the MFDC rebel, officers at the panel of investigation have subjected him to many threatening measures aimed to get  a statement from him as they want. .

Abdou Salam Jammeh further revealed that the panel of investigators had  induced him with promised to offered him a refugee and  asylum status in the Gambia . He noted  he was asked to testify against his colleagues, adding that  he did not comply with their demands.

He also revealed  that, agents of Salifu Sarjo, another  rebel leader in Casamance  were part of the arresting team and were also  presence throughout  sittings of the panel of investigators held at the NIA office.

Mr Jammeh  maintained that he was torture and subjected to many inhuman treatments  as a result of which he gave the statement without his consent."I did  not give the statement voluntarily, it was forced out of me", he said.

The case could not proceed yesterday to allow the the state prosecutor to cross examine the accused.Buba Bojang represented the state at the trial.
