Thursday, January 03, 2008
President Alhaji Dr Yahya Jammeh has donated a sum of D70,000 to the first four newborns in 2008, including twins.

Dr Tamsir Mbowe, director general of President Jammeh's Treatment Programme, who doubles as the director of Health and Medical Services presented the money to Dr Mariatou Jallow, chief medical director of RVTH, before it was accordingly shared among the newborns.

The first male and babies received D21,000 each, while the first twins got D14,000 each.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony held at the Post-natal Ward at RVTH, Dr Mbowe expressed appreciation to the president for his magnanimity and compassion for humanity, especially women.

He paid tribute to the president for his support of the health sector, which culminated into his July 31 Declaration, waiving maternal fee for Gambian women at all public health facilities.

Health and Medical Services Director Mbowe, himself a reputable gynaecologist, used the opportunity to congratulate President Jammeh and the First Family on the birth of a newborn, Muhammad Yahya Jammeh, and prayed that Allah continues to guide and bless him abundantly in steering the affairs of the state. He also congratulated the mothers of the four newborns on the birth of their babies.

For her part, the RVTH chief medical director, Dr Jallow, who expressed similar appreciation, thanked the president for the gesture and congratulated the staff of her hospital for contributing to the health of the nation.
