In an effort to curb the high rate of accidents and traffic offences in the country, Modou Jobe, a Gambian police officer in Germany, on Wednesday, on behalf of the Sayerr Jobe family in Serrekunda, donated 100 traffic jacket reflectors to the Gambian police, at a presentation ceremony held at the Gambia Police Force Headquarters, Banjul.

Speaking at the ceremony, Modou Jobe said the donation is geared towards supporting the police in their drive to save life and property. He then spoke of his desire to continue rendering support to the police.

Seedy Jobe, Alkalo of Serrekunda and father of the donor, said this presentation is the second of its kind, as his son had donated handcuffs to the Serrekunda Police Station in 2007.

Hatab Jobe, a brother to the donor, informed the garthering that Sayerr Jobe Enterprise will soon unveil a new branch that will specialise in producing vehicle number plates of all types [but European standard plates]. Accord ing to him, the machine has a capacity to produce 1,000 number plates daily.

In receiving the donated items, Famara RI Jammeh, the police adviser, thanked Sayerr Jobe family for their immense support to the Gambia Police Force.

For his part, Benedict Jammeh, the Inspector General of Police, thanked the Jobe family for the good initiative. He informed the ceremony that the police have a programme to improve the condition of service delivery.

Inspector Sulayman Secka, PRO of the police, described the donation as timely, as the recruits who graduated at the Police Training School will be deployed to traffic. He said the items will be useful to the police traffic officers in executing their duties.
