Tuesday, December 16, 2008
Jewel of India beat Wallidan on Saturday as a five-team senior cricket league got underway  at the July 22 Square in Banjul.

Jewel of India won the opener after scoring 163 points against Wallidan who scored 153 points after taking the first bat.

Matches will resume on Saturday with Gambia Ports Authority taking on Veterans, while Asia XI take on Jewel India the following day.

Johnny Gomez, the president of the Gambia Cricket Association said, the tournament is meant to prepare his cricket team ahead of the upcoming Zone II cricket championships scheduled to take place in Nigeria later this year.

He added that tournament is yet to bag a sponsor, noting that any institution willing to help would be highly welcomed.
