Rapist sentenced to 3 years

Magistrate EF M'bai of the Brikama Magistrates' Court has sentenced one Lamin Fatty to three years imprisonment after finding him guilty of an attempted rape on the 5th of October 2007 at Banjulinding village.

Mr Fatty pleaded guilty when the charge sheet was read to him.

Handing down his verdict, Magistrate M'bai told the court that he has taken into account that the convict has pleaded guilty to the charge.   "However, he added that not withstanding, the offence is a serious one and that the convict's actions were geared towards using force to have canal knowledge of the complainant without her consent.

He then sentenced Lamin Fatty to three years imprisonment with hard labour.
