Sunday, December 09, 2007

Sherifo Fadera and Omar Jassey, first and second witnesses in the infanticide

trial involving a young mother  (name witheld), believed to be in her twenties,

on Wednesday, testified before Magistrate EF M'Bai of the Brikama Magistrates Court.

The incidence reportedly occured on July 23 at Brikama Perseverance Street,

after the accused buried her baby, following her delivery.

In his testimony, Sherifo Fadera, who identified himself as a police officer,

told the court he was on duty with other officers on the day of incident when

they received information that somebody delivered and buried her child at the

said street. Fadera recalled that he went with other officers to visit the scene

and upon their arrival, a search was conducted and subsequently the place where

the child was buried was discovered and the body  exhumed.

"Pictures were then taken at the scene and subsequently the accused, her mother,

and the deseased were taken to the Brikama Police Station," Mr Fadera said.

Omar Jassey, the second witness, gave a similar testimony.

Presiding Magistrate M'Bai adjourned the case to December 12 for continuation.

Police prosecutor, Sub-inspector Saine represented the IGP.
