The Gamba College Students' Union recently held a one day training on journalism, ethical values and writing skills for members of their press club at the Gambia College hall, Brikama Campus.

Declaring the training opened, Musa Camara, president of the Gambia College Students' Union reaffirmed their commitment in giving the students in the press and writers club the necessary skills required in writing. He expressed optimism that the training will give the participants the  knowledge and skills needed to improve on the ethics and roles that journalist play in society and in nation building.

Musa Fofana, Information Minister of The Gambia College Press Club described the training as timely, noting that it will equip the participants with the required skills to practice journalism. "The lack of understanding and  institutions for of journalistic training has always been a hindrance to journalists. Therefore, this training is vital," he said. 

Mr Sam Sarr, Editor of the Foroyaa Newspaper gave a lengthy lecture on writing skills and the format of presenting news items. He advised the trainees to note the importance of writing balanced stories.

He further spoke on the importance of practicing responsible journalism stating that 'as journalists "we must always be guided by objectivity, fairness and impartiality in our profession at all times".
