Communities sensitised on safe motherhood in CRR

The National Reproductive and Child Health Unit in collaboration with the Central River Region regional health management team with fundin from World Health Organisation, last Friday concluded a two-day community sensitisation on safe motherhood at Jahanka and Kataba Omar in CRR.

The aim of the sensitisation was to increase awareness of husbands and families to have moral responsibilities to support and encourage their pregnant women and nursing women to attend clinic regularly.

Addressing participants at the closing of the two-day sesitisation workshop, Karamba F. Keita, regional health officer for CRR said husbands and other family members have an important role to play in encouraging and supporting their pregnant women and newly delivered mothers to attend maternal and child health services regularly. He called on the particpants to make best use of the knowledge gained from the sensitisation.

Nfamara Fatty, senior nursing officer at the reproductive and child health unit said, highlighted the essence of pregnant women to attend clinics regularly. This he said will  greatly help the health workers monitor  women's pregnancy and management of any abnormality.  He revealed that about 1600 women die every due to complications of pregnancy and child birth globally.  Mr Fatty observed that women needs all the moral and material support they deserve.
