Rotary Club of Banjul receives D200,000 cheque

The Rotary Club of Banjul last Friday received a cheque for D200,000 to support its Science Laboratories Project at a ceremony held at the new head office of  TOTAL (Gambia) on Atlantic Road, Fajara.

The club received the cheque from the company's managing director, Albert Roger Boum, who is also a Rotarian, as part fulfilment of a pledge the oil company made last year at the club's 27th Annual Gala Dinner and Dance held at Jaama Hall, Kairaba Hotel, commemorating 100 years of Rotary International. This will help to provide facilities for secondary school students in the Greater Banjul Area to pursue science education and hone their skills in these subjects.

Presenting the cheque, Albert Roger Boum, Total managing director, expressed his company's pleasure in donating the amount towards the project and being associated with such a laudable initiative.

Receiving the cheque on behalf of the club, Goree-Ndiaye, immediate past president in whose term as president the pledge was made, thanked TOTAL (Gambia) for its generosity and expressed hope that this gesture was just the beginning of a long lasting partnership between the two bodies.

To show the club's appreciation of TOTAL's significant contribution to the project which started two years ago with a million dalasis donated by President Yahya Jammeh through the Jammeh Foundation for Peace and Development, Goree-Ndiaye presented the managing director with a certificate and a framed copy of the objects of Rotary outlining the essence of Rotary.

Senior management staff of TOTAL (Gambia) witnessed the handing-over of the cheque. One of them, Amadou Njie, the operations manager is also a member of the Rotary Club of Banjul and a former president.

The Rotary Club of Banjul delegation comprised of the current president, Fatou Bin Jobe-Manneh, Burang Goree-Ndiaye, and past president and managing director Shola Joiner.
