Ghana Town Mosque committee solicits assistance

Wednesday, September 26, 2007

Members of the Mosque Committee of Brufut Ghana Town in Kombo North, Western Region, are seeking  funds to finance the construction of their mosque which has come to a standstill, due to financial constraints.

Work at this mosque has taken villagers almost 10 years without it being completed. However, the mosque is now at the finishing end.

Speaking to the Daily Observer, Dr Al Assan Abubacarr, Imam of the Mosque and Chairman of the Mosque Committee, expressed deep concern over the lack of completion of the mosque.

According to him, since works started at the mosque 10 years ago, little progress has been realised due to financial constraints.

He added that the need to construct the mosque was propelled by the dilapidating condition of the old mosque, which cannot accommodate the entire Muslim congregations.

He said the community is forced by the condition to perform both the daily and Friday prayers in an incomplete Mosque.

"We have the wish to complete the structure for the interest of the Muslims and the Islamic Ummah, but our efforts are retarded as the Muslims at the town now find it difficult to further finance the structure," he stated.

Imam Abubacarr then appealed to the government, NGOs, donor agencies and philanthropists to come to their aid to complete the structure. Imam Abubacarr can be reached on 7208671/ 9905546.
