Monday, October 29, 2007

Jole Rider Foundation, a charitable organisation in the United Kingdom, on Thursday disbursed about 665 bicycles to six schools in the Western Region, at a presentation ceremony held at Gunjur Corperative Grand.

The beneficiary schools were Kanlagi Upper Basic, Keneba Basic Cycle, Karanta Upper Basic, Pakalinding Upper Basic, Japinneh Upper Basic, Sifoe Senior Secondary, and Berending Lower Basic.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Abdou Badjie, Governor of Western Region, said this was the forth of its kind, by the foundation to complement government's effort in ensuring quality education for every Gambian. The WR Governor Badjie described the gesture as timely, noting that it will go a long way towards facilitating travelling.

Governor Badjie informed the ceremony that proposals are in the pipeline for Jole Rider Foundation to be allocated a site, where they can build their Head Office in The Gambia.
He urged the teachers to include in the school extra curriculum traffic rules and regulations to teach the students to be responsible users of the roads and highways.

Kebba K Barrow, representative of Jole Rider Foundation, said the presentation brought the total of distributed bicycles to 1,565 since the organisation was registered as a charitable organisation in The Gambia on 25 April 2006 .

He thanked the Department of State for Education for their support and then assured the beneficiaries of his organisation's continuous support. He finally urged them to make good use of the bicycles.

Other speaker's at the ceremony included Borry Colley, NAM for Foni Jarrol, Bakary Badjie, representative of the Gambia Teachers Union and Education For All in Western Region, among others.
