The village communities of Misra, Gunjur and Sambuya were, on Saturday, given about D600,000 worth of items, by a Gambian philanthropist Sankung Jaiteh and his wife Anna Greta Matson, at a ceremony attended by the village community leaders at their brufut residence.

The items which consisted mainly of clothes, books, shoes, mattresses, beds, cooking utensils, chairs and school materials were handed over personally by the couple themselves.

Mr Jaiteh, in handing over the items, said that he formed an organisation, five years ago when he was in Denmark, called the health and children care group, which made a pledge to make sure that every poor and disadvantaged child will be given a good and healthy foundation in life. This he said is why they have been giving help to poor and needy communities for the past four years.

"This year we donated 16 already programmed computers to the Gambia College and every year they give books to the University Library for use in their library," he added.

For her part, Anna Greta Matson, speaking after the handing over ceremony said that this is her greatest duty to mankind.  She said that everybody has a responsibility to the poor and needy to make sure that they are well taken care of and to make sure that they too have a bright future.

She added that they have already established nursery schools in the villages of Sambuya and Misra, which they are maintaining with sponsors for all students attending these schools.

She further added that with their guidance and recommendation, hundreds of tourists from Denmark visited The Gambia on the same philantrophic work.
