A new three-classroom block at Jambanjelly Basic Cycle School was on Tuesday inaugurated at Jambanjelly Village in Kombo South.

The school project -suppoted by Roelef Etchen College in the Netherlands - also saw the construction of a library, staff room, an office, and toilets.
Speaking at the ceremony, the School Principal, Ebrima Badjie  said the relationship between Jambanjelly Basic Cycle School and the Roelf Etchen College started in 2004 and this has seen a lot of positive things. 

Mr Badjie said this development runs to complement government's efforts in bringing quality and relevant education to the doorsteps of every Gambian.
A representative of the director of Regional Education Office in Region Two, Sang Korea described the project as a step in the right direction.  

Madi Jatta, who deputised for the secretary of state for Basic and Secondary Education, said the new school will contribute to efforts geared towards building a literate society. Mr Jatta assured the beneficiaries that his department will not relent in ensuring affordable education for all Gambian students.

Christine Bruinsma, a one-time deputy initiator of the project, lauded Roelef College for funding the project and their resolve to continue investing in education.
Hon Paul Mendy, National Assembly member for Kombo South, who represented the governor of Western Region, thanked the donors for their untiring efforts and promised the donors that the facilities will be put to good use.

Cherno Bojang, representative of the chief of Kombo South, also thanked the donors for the project.
The ceremony was punctuated with cultural entertainment by Kayong Karlong Cultural Group and the scouts band.

Oumie Jallow, head girl of Jambanjelly Basic Cycle School, read the vote of thanks, while Dembo Kinteh, coordinator of CCF in Sanyang Village, chaired the ceremony.
