Danish NGO donates to 18 institutions

Wednesday, October 31, 2007

St George's Guild-The Gambia, a Non-Governmental Organisation based in Denmark, in  collaboration with the Gambia Boden Powel International Scouts/Guilds Fellowship, on Friday donated various items to 18 different institutions in the country, at a ceremony held at the Serrekunda General Hospital in Kanifing.

The donated items included educational, health, agricultural, sports, and scouts materials.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Pa Omar Bojang, Project Coordinator of the organisation, said the items were collected by retired scouts in Denmark, and then noted that   the assistance could be spanned back in 1987.

He said the assistance is geared towards complementing government's effort in providing quality life, as the government alone cannot do it.

He then informed the gathering that the organisation has established schools in Jarra Soma, Lower River Region and Sanyang village in Kombo South, Western Region.
Mr Bojang assured the beneficiaries of his organisation's assistance and then called on them to make the best use of the materials.

Ousman Semega Jagne, Secretary-General of the Gambia Boden Powel International Scouts/Guilds Fellowship, also urged the beneficiaries to make the best use of the donated items, saying that the elderly scouts in Denmark have demonstrated a lot of commitment in the realisation of their objectives.

Receiving the items, on behalf of the beneficiaries, Hon Sheriff Abba Sanyang, National Assembly Member for Foni Kansala, commended the donors for the gesture.
He finally assured them that the donated items will be put into good use and then buttressed on earlier comments.
