Nov 10: APC Gambia branch victory celebrationFriday, November 09, 2007 Sierra Leoneans belonging to the Gambian branch will on Saturday, November 10th, 2007, celebrate the All Peoples Congress (APC) presidential election victory at the St. Therese's Upper Basic School in Kanifing. The celebration will take place in the morning in grand style, beginning with a mass parade of members, sympathisers and wellwishers. The parade will also involve the Sierra Leonean traditional masquerades known as the "paddle".
Speaking to the Daily Observer, Minkailu A.M. Camara, Chairman of APC Gambia branch, said a forum of dignitaries will also be held at St. Therese's between 4pm to 8pm. He added that the Chief Patron of the forum will be Foday Yumkella, High Commissioner of Sierra Leone in The Gambia, and that dignitaries from The Gambia government are also invited.
He therefore called on all Sierra Leoneans in The Gambia to come out in large numbers with their APC T-shirts, to mark the day.
Ibrahim Sillah, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the APC Gambia branch, said the APC are exemplary in Sierra Leone and even beyond, adding that it is the first party in Sierra Leone to defeat an incumbent government through the ballot box. He assured supporters of their safety and appealed to them not to use bottles on the streets during the mask parade.
